JD's birthday was last Friday- and I think it was a great day! For supper we went to the back-to-school picnic for EC, and discovered an unknown park close to us that has an actual, lighted bocci ball court!
Sweetie-Cate:

Halle had her first Merry-Go-Round experience. She did pretty well and the big girls graciously slowed down when she started to panic. :)

We hurried home to have "Daddy's Birthday Party" before the girls' bed time. His cake was (boxed) chocolate with (homemade) chocolate raspberry ganache icing. Mmmm! The three candles mean nothing except that Halle is three and she helped put them in:

The inspiration for the cake was PF Chang's Great Wall of Chocolate- JD's personal favorite. I tried to make it authentic- melted some raspberry jam, cut up fresh fruit and sprinkled mini chocolate chips over it- we nearly needed CPR! And it was pretty darn close to the real thing, it just wasn't this pretty:

"Was is
good," you ask?
Um. Yes:

Cate dozed in and out during the "party":

You know you've reached the end of the birthday road when all 5 of your birthday gifts are wrapped in coloring pages and the most exciting one is something like this:

The
real gift was date night:

And yes. We
both liked it.
